Havas Attila 2001. januártól a KRTK Közgazdaságtudományi Intézet tudományos főmunkatársa. Kutatási területe az innováció gazdaságtana: az ágazati és nemzeti innovációs rendszerek működése; a tudomány-, technológia- és innovációpolitika; az előretekintés (foresight) elmélete és gyakorlata; valamint a társadalmi innováció. Ezeken a területeken számos nemzetközi kutatási programban vett részt, illetve nemzetközi konferenciákon rendszeresen felkérik előadások tartására. A cseh, görög, litván, török és szlovén technológiai előretekintési programok tanácsadója, valamint EU és OECD szakértői csoportok tagja volt. A Foresight and STI Governance szerkesztőbizottságának tagja és az International Journal of Foresight and Innovation Policy regionális szerkesztője. 1997–2000-ben az első magyar Technológiai Előretekintési Programot vezette, korábban pedig az IKU, Innovációs Kutatóközpont (1990–1997) és más kutatóintézetek munkatársa volt (1983–1989).
